Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Big things are happening at The Falcon Academy of Creative Arts!  Today marked the official GRAND OPENING of our school!  Students performed, a creative ribbon was created in my classroom and then cut by our board member president, and our new sign and logo was unveiled.  Later parents and students gathered for cider and donuts.  Excitement is in the air as each week we get closer to our vision and the dreams that we have for our school.

Art and Science... Science and Art!

Art integration was truly buzzing at The Academy this week when fourth graders combined their science lesson on plant parts and growth stages with a ceramic fossil leaf bowl.  The perfect weather this week lent itself to the creation of these beautiful works of art.  Students placed their leaves with the vein side down into a slab of clay then used a carving tool to trace around it.  While working they reviewed their science curriculum and even sang the songs they wrote in Mr. Lemmo and Mrs. Walker's class about plant life.  These clay creations will be fired in a kiln and the leaves will burn up and disintegrate off of them (another connection with science!) leaving behind a fossil.  Finally students will glaze them for a gorgeous end product!

Making Progress...

Wow!  What an exciting (and exhausting) first week back to school!  Although it is already October, I recently joined the staff at The Falcon Academy five weeks late due to the beautiful baby boy that I had over the summer.  He was born on the 4th of July... check out his picture.  Anyhow-- The Academy is buzzing with creative children with innovative, exciting ideas.   In our art classes this week we jumped right in with painting, sculptural and drawing projects across the grade levels.  The students gave me such a warm welcome back and we have been busy creating, creating, creating!  Coming soon at The Academy is our own student gallery housed in a room just off of the gymnasium.  This gallery will consistently rotate its exhibit to display the talents of our students.  Look for future posts, pictures of current work and other updates.  It's good to be back!
